April 17, 2025
Congratulations to Mykel Barrett for being awarded the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF GRFP). As a second-year graduate student in the Gene Regulation, Epigenomics, and Transcriptomics home area of the Molecular Biology PhD program, Mykel conducts research in Dr. Amjad Askary's lab, focusing on multiplexed analysis of enhancer dynamics to elucidate how cis-regulatory elements interpret intercellular signals. The NSF GRFP provides three years of financial support over a five-year period, including an annual stipend of $37,000 and a $16,000 cost-of-education allowance to the institution. This fellowship recognizes Mykel's potential for significant research achievements in STEM and will support his continued contributions to the field of molecular biology.
